Rubber moulds are made from my hand-forged originals.   The moulds are filled with wax.   The wax castings.   The wax handles are grouped together on a large lump of wax called a tree.   The tree is placed in a vessel which is filled with a special type of plaster called the investment.   Once the investment has set the wax is melted out using a kiln. The old wax is re-used to make more trees.   Molten metal is poured into the cavities left by the wax.   The investment is removed by quenching the vessel in water.   The handles after quenching.   They are now shot blasted to clean them.   And cut from their sprue.   Fine fettling using an abrasive flap wheel to remove any imperfections.   The fixing holes are drilled and tapped.   They are now polished in a vibro polisher using an abrasive compound.   Patinated to a dark brown colour.   Polished in a vibro polisher using a polishing compound.   They are dried and ready to go.
